World’s oldest racing bath to compete at the World’s oldest Bathtub race?!

THE ARUN BATHTUB RACE has been running since the 70’s, maybe even the 60’s, making it possibly the oldest Bathtub Race in the world!  This year the 2014 Bathtub race has MOVED FROM ARUNDEL TO LITTLEHAMPTON and may see the return of a vessel with continuous racing history stretching back to 1986.  This could well be the oldest currently racing bathtub in the world!

The team restoring this piece of Bathtub history are staying tight lipped as to its theme or mode of decoration, but are confident it will be ready for THE INCREDIBLE ARUN BATHTUB RACE on SUNDAY AUGUST 24TH.  Whilst the original rules stipulated that the bath had to be cast iron making it extremely heavy, this has since been replaced with a lightweight fibreglass version.  The wooden structure and polystyrene pontoons however are original, and despite battle scars gained over the years, will see paddle powered mayhem once more!

A copy of The Argus dated August 1986 shows this fine vessel in all her glory and proudly displaying her racing number 39.  Let’s hope that the weather is better than it was on that day in 1986!

The race will start at approximately 11.30 a.m. The exact time will be dependent on conditions on the day, but the weather forecast is still looking good.
    Thanks for your enquiry.
